OAS's First Masquerade Entry at CN 2007

Canadian National Anime Expo 2007 of Fan Expo 2007 is where OAS (Ontario Anime Society ~ http://oas.hidoshi.com/ ) first graced the masquerade stage.

Entry #67 in the masters division entitled "I Like To Bend It"

Luck was not with us this entry
~ Stage was tiny.
~ Summer entries are difficult since summer means vacations, jobs, and distance. We must all try harder next time to not let these stop us from holding more group practises.

BUT...
... it was a good stage experience for us all. And forms were learnt and practised. For most of us with no martial arts experience, we did very well. Huzzah and pats on the back for everyone =D

Thanks huge to Dylan, Aesees and Crystal, who without, I would be no where. And thanks lots to hidoshi who provided the Audio.

They drag me on stage of the masquerade on saturday from the green room.

I was entry 80. So when they call me up I was like 'What. I'm not ready. It's not about my entry? Its nothing bad. Oh noes I'm doomed! I hope not!'

They called into backstage and then called me away and then back again.

I was confused and Improv-ed on stage. I hope I didn't over do it. I Hope I represented my fellow Time-warpers-2.0-ers well.

Thrusday

So I stuff all my stuff into the family van and me parents drive me to the raddisson. Quick stop to the ATM, small yellish talk about where the Raddison was but it was small and forgetable. I get to the Raddison and hug and kiss mum and dad goodbye and check suit case, aang staff, fishing pole, and waka baka.

I potter over to the TTC with my back pack, side saddle bag, two hats, and a box of banana, apples and a loaf of bread, and the sleeping bag.

Line up for the pre reg and pick up the groups. Bad luck. Programs are huge this year. As big as my food box. Swap an extra empty box and toss the program in there (each with a think free newtype magazine).

What? Weapon check will open with thrusday reg for the sat masq. Awesome. So with my full arms I pad over to the raddisson, grab weapons and what not like the wakabaka, and pad back to the doubletree and get them check. Then pad back to the raddisson to store the weapons. Cell goes off and its the weapon check they call me and tell me I left my badge behind. Good thing I wrote my cell number on the back of it just in case. So I potter back with the programs and my stuff. Really heavy.

I wait in line to swap mine, Mark's Kenney's and Mike's badges for panelist once and I'm off on the bus to meeet Mark at kipling.

I get to kipling and go down the stairs and first thing I see is the backsides of Crystal and Anothnoy. WTF. COOL!

We wait for Mark ...I mean Kenney to pick us up. We get to the Party. And sleep...eventually.

FRIDAY

Get up early and find out there is not enough Car space. so a drop off at Kipling and I bus guide I, Layna and Maion to the Con type deal at DT. Meet chibi and photo her and her crew.

Then I check in to the Raddisson. After I dump my stuff into the room I wonder for a bit and get my panelist badge re stamped by weapon check since my old badge that was stamped was swapped for a panalist badge.

A few photos taken of and by me. MEt Tom. Did another savage bandito bit. Went backa nd got some luggage into the rooms. Check another room in. Mark show up and got my stuff into the room.

Then the trouble with 5 PM check in. Yay. Not happening at 5 but at 8 pm. Oh well we muster as many people into costume and then practise. Stress takes me and so does me anger. I must control the hulk within.

Quick bite to eat at harveys. A dash back to the Raddison for supplies and dudck tape. Hop back without it and use my back tape. Rehersal. It sucks Ben couldn't be with us offically.

Durning the prep in Green room I run into Eva and hug her and rosie and I'm off again.

We preform...its awesome. Its funny. You remember all the rpactise but nenver the proformerance.

We rush out the green room cause of it use for something else. I loose my tai which I lent to Ian for the Sanji. And also my kunai which I lent to Kenney. I need to bug AN about the friday green room lost and found.

Then to the rooms and rest. Get out of costume. Clean for a bit. Celled up and Mark is on the end, tipsy at the Kellsey. I go and find him sucking water with Layna and Maion, I rush back to the room and grab mike and bring him too. We sit and eat for a bit and leave as the billed is paid for.

Heck. Probs. Hotel tosses warnings to the party room. A few walks-along/helps-alongs for various poeple in different states of drunkness. Deal with probable fights bewteen room-mates. Fabio apprently tosses a car parking on my credit card and no ones tells me. I walk him out to AN to pay me back. Next time I get one room tops on my credit card. I'll hold as many as I can, but no more then one on me credit card do charges go.

Mark informs us we won in the friday masq aka skit contest. Judges choice award and invite guest's award from nan yan

Yay. and Sleep.

SATURDAY

Wake up. I in aang Crystal in toph and find Cathie in the room. Yay and hugs and quick photo and then I and Crystal are off. We get there early and potter off to the TTC and the dealer's room before avatar panel starts.

We get back and wait. I fool around with me staff for a bit and the nickeloen guy asks for a few photos and to digi record a vid of me and staff form. God I suck at staff...no practise like forever.

We have a few more group shots and go the panel. I find Matt and drag him to an ATM. His cheque he gave for the room is not signed so he needs to give me money for it. Run into Ryan. He needs his pre reg since he switch e-mails and didn't tell me. I get the money from Matt. Hop to Raddisson and pre reg from ryan. Back to avatar panel. I win a gift package and spit with nechan.

Then its off to the hotel and swap into jujitsu Gi for the masq. go Green room and its late. Find Eva and Rosie for a bit and we chat. Gave Rosie a fan. Eva got a shirt that said 'Attorney at LOL' ... LOL. Find my den number. Back to Raddison for forgotten bits. Get back and do poloroids, Workmenship, and sound check. Practise on laptop. Saw ruth and used her earphones. Went back hotel room for my headphones when Ruth needed hers and practise, green room chat, ate somebought grub.

Again, practise memory but no perfromance memory. Out and back to the raddison for a swap and dis garb into cheaper jujitsu gi for the moonlight. Meet Eva and her crew at the DT. Hop back to the room and bring Rosie and Eva glow sticks. TO the line for the Moonlight and meet will, Eva's friend and yay.

Line wait and boom. Master list for the tickets is late. Mark arrives but I with no ticket. I grab them finally and we enter. Sadly Eva had to go and little time to the dance floor and hanging out. Since the moonlight started late, doubly so. But got to hang with Mark for the rest of the dance after I walked Eva back to her room.

DANCE. Hand a few shared ones with Heather and Amanada. It has been forever since I latin dance with Amanada. I hope I wasn't too rusty.

Went back to the lobby and talked to Peter, Eva's friend, about doing a pre show for the opening cere. at the otakuthon. Also met up with Dawn. She Eric and some of her stage crew were hanging out the masq office. She went on a bit about how she come to know me and my career of me and my group.

I apologized for my childish and rude behavior in the beginning. And found out I won. Presentation award in master division: 'Most likely to receive the surgeon general's warming' for my 'try pocky' skit. Yay. I won in masters, and solo no less. I did it myyyyyyy wwwwwaaaaaayyyyy.

So go back to the room. Improvtu meeting in the hall outside of it. Mark bites hard. Inside room. Clean and sleep.

Sunday.

Up and packed and bag checked and out to panel "Cosplay group: do it yourself". Went awesome. Better then I hoped even though I was half tired.

Eva anr Rosie were thgere. So with Emily and Pzauzu. Sorry I could dome with you Eva to DDR. I had to get butts checked out of rooms and off me credit card. A few lost key cards and slow movers but it was done.

Sadily Eva and rosie had to go and I didn't get to hang more or say good bye. -weeps-

FFXI photo shoot was a bust. Pokemone one was too. OR so I though, but I just left the pokemone thing too early.

Wandered the dealers room for a bit. Ran and hug and wished goobye to nehcan. Fell asleep in the dealers room waiting for the rain to stop. Left when it did and got me bags picked up by the folks and brought home.

Went to the double tree to find the guys. Ran into the Mel and helped her fing Meg. She stayed int the DT, while I went out the Reni to find Meg. cover more ground. I found Meg and told Mel to meet us at the Tuckers.

Tuckers we went, dinner was hand. GOod noodles. Sand songs and gave Medals to Mark and Hether. They desrve it. GOod food , times and con.

Rides from the raddison to Kipliing with Laura. Then home. I do hope Andrian and Laura do not feel horrid for eatint the tuckers food again. I sure it won't ahppen again.

2) Tai Chi Chuan Rocks. So does Tai Chi. Sadly I can only study Tai Chi right now, Chuan comes later. Hopefully Chuan will bring take out from Lotus Pond, I love me Curry Pockets, and that fiver he owes me.

So my sister is leaving soon to go to the only country that is an island and a continent to study medicine for 4 years. I treat her and her boyfriend to ramen for the last day. I get there and I can't have any of it. Served all in pork broth it is. Not fair I say. But I had the chicken curry so it was all good. And they had couquettes and ramune. Very nice. Not horror at all.

Other then the part where I forgot my wallet and my sis's bf sean paid for the meal. Embrassinging I assure you but I'll pay him back tonight.

Sometimes I wish I was riased by the staff and not the book. I would be lacking less.

But the most unfamilar venues can be the most rewarding. No trail in life that the soul cannot profit from.

1 dollar US = 4 dollars canadian when on a credit card...kookie no?

Also Mark and Cathie are the best people ever. At least in my book, you know why. ^^
